1 Broadcasting is the use of radio frequencies to transmit audio or television signals to an audience within the range of a transmitter. Although broadcasting may be used for the transmission of information to particular individual receivers, its common use is to transmit programmes to a general audience. A radio signal carries information by the modulation of its phase, amplitude or frequency within a given spectrum band. Signals may be encrypted so as to establish and preserve a subscription market or for reasons of security, but most broadcasting is accessible...
