1 The European passport is a passport (Passports) issued by a Member State of the European Union (‘EU’; see also European Union, Historical Evolution). From a legal point of view, it is equivalent to a national passport, ie an official document for the purpose of travel, attesting to the holder’s identity and nationality, and obliging the issuing State to admit the holder to its territory should he or she be expelled from another State.
