1The Delagoa Bay Railway Arbitration was conducted between the United States and Great Britain as joint claimants against Portugal as defendant. The arbitration exclusively concerned the question of what compensation was due from Portugal for its rescission of a railway concession and seizure of a railroad. The arbitration was a part of a wider series of disputes between Portugal and other colonial powers, notably Great Britain, and later South Africa, for control over the south-east African coast.
