1 The issue of solving conflicts between international treaties is closely linked to the applicability and validity of treaties (Treaties, Validity) and, ultimately, their effectiveness to pursue and achieve their relevant objectives. If rights and duties of parties to an international treaty are unclear due to contradicting rules established by another instrument, the observance of either of the instruments will suffer.
