The vast majority of armed conflicts that are fought today are not of an international character.1 This fact is well-appreciated but the literature on the law of armed conflict continues to focus disproportionately on international armed conflicts. The leading texts in the area devote a single chapter to non-international armed conflicts, which is usually tucked away at the end of the volume.2 Things are slowly starting to change, and in recent years, a few works have been published on particular aspects of the law applicable in non-international armed conflict.3...
