- Subject(s):
- Human rights remedies — Military assistance — Armed conflict, international — Armed conflict, non-international — Military matters — International peace and security
This chapter deals with the delivery of humanitarian assistance by States’ armed forces. Military involvement in the delivery of humanitarian assistance typically occurs in one of two situations: first, outside armed conflict, when States’ armed forces offer assistance in times of emergency, e.g. natural disasters and the provision of assistance during peace support operations and multinational operations; and, secondly, during armed conflict, when States’ armed forces provide humanitarian assistance, e.g. the provision of assistance during peace support operations and multinational operations. The chapter discusses the relevant legal requirements for relief operations, the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and coordination of relief actions among the actors involved.
