Detention — Armed conflict, non-international

This introduction to the book provides a brief background of the subject, highlighting the differences in how international and non-international armed conflicts are governed in international humanitarian law (IHL) and focusing in particular on the differentiated approach to the regulation of armed conflict in relation to internment. This introduction explains why the differences in the legal rules are applicable and indeed worrying in the modern context. The introduction concludes with a discussion of the aims and scope of enquiry of the book, as well as a section on methodology.
