1 The Gulf of Fonseca (‘the Gulf’) is a small bay in the Pacific Ocean (Bays and Gulfs). Its coast is shared by El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The northwest side of the Gulf borders land territory of El Salvador; the southeast side borders Nicaragua’s territory. Honduras, in turn, has a substantial coastline on the inner part of the Gulf.
