Nothing in the present Convention shall affect any provisions that are more conducive to the achievement of equality between men and women which may be contained: (a) In the legislation of a State Party; or (b) In any other international convention, treaty or agreement in force for that State.   Article 23 is a savings clause,1 the purpose of which is to clarify the relationship between the provisions of the Convention and those contained in other treaties or national law.
