1 The United Nations Security Council is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN). It is the organ upon which, ‘in order to ensure prompt and effective action’ (Art. 24 (1) United Nations Charter [‘UN Charter’]), the members of the UN have conferred ‘primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security’ (ibid).
