1 The construction of bridges over rivers which constitute the boundary between two neighbour States requires an agreement between the riparians (Boundaries). An agreement will usually determine the frontier, the extent of property rights, as well as the distribution of costs. European treaty practice in the 19th century tended to provide for the boundary on a bridge over a navigable river to pass through the centre of the structure over the water. Other agreements—eg between the United States of America and Mexico on the boundaries on the Rio Grande (Rio Bravo)...
