In this chapter we look at how the law of armed conflict regulates air and missile targeting. Much of the law that applies in the air domain has already been set out in earlier chapters and will not therefore require repeated explanation here. One point that deserves some early emphasis, however, is the somewhat haphazard way in which the law of aerial warfare has developed.1 The famous remark of Lord Harris, cited in section 2.8, demonstrated how limited the law explicitly applying to air warfare was as at the commencement of the Second World War.
