Equality as an EU Value

1 Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU) declares that equality is one of the founding values of the European Union (EU). The founding values are, as Article 2 continues, common to the Member States in a society where, among others, nondiscrimination and equality between men and women prevail. Article 3 TEU then declares that the promotion of these values is one of the aims of the EU.
