Whether an individual’s right to life, as protected under Article 4 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (‘African Charter’) was violated through the imposition of a mandatory death sentence without consideration of special circumstances, such as their mental state.

Whether an individual’s pre-trial detention of six and a half years, and their subsequent sentencing to death by hanging, constituted a violation of the right to dignity under Article 5 of the African Charter.
