1 The Arctic Sunrise cases dealt with a dispute between the Kingdom of the Netherlands (‘Netherlands’) and the Russian Federation (‘Russia’; Russia). The dispute concerned the boarding of the Arctic Sunrise in the Pechora Sea located within the exclusive economic zone (‘EEZ’) of Russia in September 2013, and the subsequent detention of both the ship and the individuals on board by Russia. The Arctic Sunrise is a vessel that flies the flag of the Netherlands (Flag of Ships) and is chartered and operated by the non-governmental organization (‘NGO’) Greenpeace...
