Jurisdiction of states, extra-territorial — Private international law — International courts and tribunals, jurisdiction

This introductory chapter begins by setting out the scope and method of the present study, which aims to develop a rule-based framework of jurisdiction under international law, from a transatlantic perspective. It then presents the structure of the study followed by discussions of jurisdiction as a concern of international law; the concept of jurisdiction in transnational domestic litigation; and the concept of jurisdiction in international human rights treaties.
